Nairobi Expressway
The Nairobi Expressway is a rapid transit route connecting Nairobi's city center to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It passes by important landmarks such as Nairobi's Central Business District, the National Museum, the National Stadium, and Parliament Buildings. It is 27.1 kilometers long, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Construction began in September 2020 and was officially put into operation on July 31, 2022. The total investment is approximately 600 million US dollars.
The Nairobi Expressway project is deeply involved in Kenya's economic and social development. It has reduced travel time between the airport and the city center from two hours to twenty minutes, significantly lowering logistics and commuting costs for residents. During construction, the project employed over 6,000 local workers, benefiting 200 local subcontractors and hundreds of local building material suppliers. In addition, during operation, the project employs over 500 local workers, accounting for approximately 95% of the total workforce.
The Nairobi Expressway project is one of Kenya's most important infrastructure projects and a significant project under the Belt and Road Initiative. Currently, the project radiates and drives multiple industries in Kenya, including transportation and tourism, benefiting millions of Kenyan residents.
