Water Cube

The National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Water Cube", is located in the Beijing Olympic Park. It was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics and is one of the iconic buildings of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Its design scheme was the "Water Cube" ([H2O]3) scheme, selected from a global design competition. Located on either side of the northern end of Beijing's central axis, it and the National Stadium (commonly known as the Bird's Nest) together form a relatively complete image of Beijing's historical and cultural city.

The planned construction area of the National Aquatics Center is 62,950 square meters, with a total building area of 65,000-80,000 square meters. The underground area is no less than 15,000 square meters, with dimensions of 177m × 177m × 30m.

During the 2008 Olympic Games, the National Aquatics Center hosted swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo competitions. It has a seating capacity of 17,000, including 6,000 permanent seats and 11,000 temporary seats (removed after the Olympics). After the Games, it became a center with internationally advanced facilities, combining swimming, sports, fitness, and leisure.
