Kunming Changshui International Airport

Kunming Changshui International Airport (ICAO: ZPPP; IATA: KMG) is located in Changshui Village, Guandu District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, 24.5 kilometers northeast of Kunming City. It is operated and managed by Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd., one of the top 100 airports in the world. It is the only large-scale gateway hub airport approved for construction during China's Eleventh Five-Year Plan period and is a major international hub airport in Southwest China, ranking alongside Urumqi Diwopu International Airport as one of China's two national gateway hub airports.

Construction of Kunming Changshui International Airport officially began on December 5, 2008. On December 1, 2009, the concrete structure of the terminal building complex was completed. On May 1, 2011, the Civil Aviation Administration of China officially approved the naming of the new Kunming airport as Kunming Changshui International Airport. On June 28, 2012, Kunming Airport relocated from Kunming Wujia Dam International Airport to Changshui International Airport.

The construction of Kunming Changshui International Airport is a key project of China's Eleventh Five-Year Plan; an important component of the national integrated transportation system; and a super-large urban infrastructure construction project in Yunnan Province. It shoulders the significant mission of implementing the national civil aviation power strategy and the Yunnan open bridgehead strategy toward the southwest, positioned as a national gateway hub airport connecting Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Eurasia. The completion of the new airport makes Kunming the fourth city in China, after Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, to have a national large-scale gateway hub airport. This will play a positive role in optimizing the national airport strategic layout, promoting the economic development of Yunnan, and enhancing the comprehensive competitiveness of the modern new Kunming central city.
