Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Runway

Construction of Baiyun Airport's third runway was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on July 20, 2012. Construction began on August 20, 2012, and was completed on July 31, 2014. The third runway is located 400 meters east of the existing east runway. It is 3800 meters long and 75 meters wide, with a 4F airport classification, capable of accommodating the take-off and landing of super-large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.

The total land area of the project is 2.2611 million square meters, and the total pavement area is 822,400 square meters.

The south end of the third runway is offset by 600 meters from the existing east runway to the south. One parallel taxiway is set up between the new and old runways, and another on the east side of the new runway. Six rapid-exit taxiways and five vertical connecting taxiways are set up between the third runway and the parallel taxiways on both sides. A detour taxiway is set up at the south end of the existing east runway. The third runway's aid-to-navigation lighting system is designed for Category II precision approach operations in both directions, including approach lights, sequenced flashing lights, runway lighting system, taxiway lighting system, taxiway guidance signage, lighting computer monitoring system and a 2200 square meter lighting substation. The third runway project also included the construction of fire protection, security, internal and external drainage, earthworks, and enclosure roads and fences.
