Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel

The Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel is located on the shortest route from Qingdao to Huangdao on the Shandong Peninsula. It is the second undersea tunnel in mainland China, with its deepest point at 84.2 meters. It is a six-lane, two-way tunnel.

Located beneath the Jiaozhou Bay, the Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel is a vital passage connecting the east and west banks of the bay. Together with the Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Bridge and the Huan Jiaozhou Bay Expressway, it forms the Huan Jiaozhou Bay road network. Its completion and opening are of significant importance for promoting coordinated economic development between Qingdao and Huangdao, alleviating traffic pressure, further optimizing urban layout and industrial structure, and building Qingdao into an international metropolis.

The Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel starts from Xuejiadao in Huangdao District in the south and ends at the tunnel entrance of Yunnan Road and Sichuan Road in Tuan Island in the north. It is 7800 meters long, with a land section of 3850 meters and a sea section of 3950 meters. Currently, it ranks first in China and third in the world for undersea tunnel length. It is the second undersea tunnel built in China. It has two main tunnels and one service tunnel, with six lanes in both directions. There is a ramp for entering and exiting the tunnel 2000 meters from the tunnel entrance on the Qingdao side. The minimum rock cover thickness is 30 meters, the deepest seawater depth at the top of the tunnel is 42 meters, the deepest point of the tunnel arch is 78 meters below sea level, the maximum longitudinal slope is 4%, and the construction period is 47 months.
