Qianjiang Tunnel
The Qianjiang Tunnel is a key control project of the Qianjiang Channel and connecting line project, a super-large cross-river highway tunnel connecting Hangzhou Xiaoshan in the south and Jiaxing Haining in the north. The tunnel takes a shortcut, extending northward to connect with the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway and southward to connect with the Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway. After its completion, it will change the current situation where people need to travel westward and detour through Hangzhou from Xiaoshan to the north of the Qiantang River. It is the most convenient passage connecting Xiaoshan, Shaoxing areas along the route with Jiaxing, Shanghai, and southeastern Jiangsu areas. The distance between Shanghai and Xiaoshan will also be shortened by 70 kilometers. It opened on April 16, 2014.
The Qianjiang Tunnel is another key project following the Ningbo Hangzhou Bay Bridge and the Hangzhou Bay Jiaxing-Shaoxing Cross-River Bridge. These passages have driven the construction of Zhejiang's Hangzhou Bay industrial belt on the one hand and shortened the distance between areas south of the Qiantang River and Shanghai on the other, creating transportation conditions for Zhejiang to better integrate into the Yangtze River Delta economic circle, which is conducive to optimizing the investment environment.
The Qianjiang Channel and connecting line project passes through Jiaxing, Hangzhou, and Shaoxing. It is a 'passage' in the 'two vertical, two horizontal, eighteen connecting, three loops, and three passages' expressway main framework of the Zhejiang Provincial Highway and Waterway Transportation Construction Plan, and is part of the 'seven longitudinals' of Jiangsu Yancheng to Shaoxing Expressway in the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area expressway network plan, playing an extremely important role in the regional highway network. The Qianjiang Tunnel is a control and key project of the Qianjiang Channel and connecting line project, and the first large-scale cross-river tunnel in the Qiantang River basin. The completion of the Qianjiang Tunnel will connect the north and south banks of the Qiantang River, which is of great significance to strengthening the mutual connection and economic exchanges between important cities on both sides of the Qiantang River.
