Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) is a cross-sea bridge in China, connecting Hong Kong's Lantau Island, Macao Peninsula, and Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province. It is 49.968 kilometers long, with the main "sea bridge and tunnel" section measuring 35.578 kilometers. This includes an underwater tunnel of approximately 6.75 kilometers and a bridge section of approximately 29 kilometers.

The idea of building the HZMB was first proposed by Hong Kong architect Hu Yingxiang in 1983. Construction officially began on December 15, 2009. The main bridge was successfully joined on June 29, 2016, and officially opened on September 27, 2016. It was expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2017.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the world's longest cross-sea bridge, connecting one of the world's most dynamic economic regions. It has significant strategic importance in promoting further economic development in Hong Kong, Macao, and the western Pearl River Delta region. It is a milestone in China's transition from a bridge-building nation to a bridge-building powerhouse.

As of October 7, 2016, 29 underwater immersed tubes (including E33 installed on the 7th) had been completed, with a total of 33 underwater immersed tubes planned. The Gongbei Tunnel of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was completed on December 28, 2016.
