Beijing Sixth Ring Road

The Beijing Sixth Ring Road is a ring-shaped expressway located in Beijing. Also known as the G4501 Beijing Ring Expressway, its former name was "Highway Second Ring." It was later renamed "Beijing Sixth Ring Road" for standardization. It is 187.6 kilometers long and was fully opened on September 12, 2009. The Beijing West Sixth Ring Expressway, a project presented as a gift for the 60th National Day anniversary, allowed the entire 187.6-kilometer Beijing Sixth Ring Road to be fully opened upon its completion.

After the completion of the Sixth Ring Road, the capital's road traffic network will be further improved, and its capacity will be greatly enhanced. According to reports, after the opening of the Sixth Ring Road, the traffic volume mainly shifted from the Fifth Ring Road and other surrounding road networks. Compared to the previous traffic on the Fifth Ring Road and other roads, the speed has significantly increased. At the same time, the Fifth Ring Road and other road networks also saw increased speeds due to reduced traffic volume. With the shift of traffic flow from the Fifth Ring Road and other roads to the Sixth Ring Road, the overall traffic conditions of the road network have improved, the incidence of traffic accidents has decreased, and economic losses due to traffic accidents involving personnel, vehicles, roads, and bridges will be reduced.
