I. Product Introduction

  HD series lignin fibers are available in two forms: flocculent and granular. The raw materials are all natural wood fibers. Using high-quality natural wood, after screening, splitting, high-temperature treatment, bleaching, chemical treatment, neutralization, and decomposition of the lignin and most of the fibers, the remaining inert organic fibers form a fiber structure chain. Then, it is sieved into fibers of different lengths and thicknesses to meet the needs of different application materials.

  Because the processing temperature is as high as 260℃ or more, the resulting product is a chemically very stable substance, not corroded by common solvents, acids, or alkalis. It has excellent qualities of being non-toxic, odorless, pollution-free, and non-radioactive. It does not affect the environment and is harmless to the human body, belonging to a green and environmentally friendly product, which is not possessed by other mineral lignin fibers.

  The microstructure of the fiber is band-shaped and curved, uneven, and porous. The intersections are flat and form a three-dimensional network in the asphalt, hindering the flow of asphalt. This product has good toughness, dispersibility, and chemical stability, strong water absorption capacity, and excellent thickening and crack resistance, which can significantly improve various properties of asphalt concrete pavement.

II. Product Characteristics

IV. Main Function and Principle

  ● Reinforcement effect:

  After adding lignin fiber to the SMA mixture, the fiber exists in a three-dimensional dispersed state in the mixture. Like various steel fiber concrete, soil grids, and geotextiles, it can play a reinforcement role, thereby improving the high and low-temperature stability of the asphalt mixture.

  ● Dispersion effect:

  Lignin fiber has good dispersibility, and it can make asphalt, mineral powder and other components evenly dispersed in the mixture. Without fiber, a large amount of asphalt mineral powder may become a colloid, which cannot be evenly dispersed between aggregates. “Oil stains” will be clearly seen on the pavement. Lignin fiber can disperse the colloid and prevent the formation of colloidal substances leading to pavement “oil stains”.

  ● Holding effect:

  Lignin fiber in asphalt mixture, through the adsorption and absorption of asphalt on the fiber surface and inside, holds more asphalt. This thickens the asphalt structural film, improving the strength and durability of the mixture.

  During production, transportation, and paving, due to its own gravity, asphalt will flow to the bottom of the mixture. After adding lignin fiber during mixing, the fiber, with its unique three-dimensional network structure, firmly holds the asphalt, preventing asphalt leakage and segregation. Moreover, the fiber has strong reinforcement characteristics and can greatly enhance the strength of the asphalt mixture, thereby greatly improving the high and low-temperature stability of the mixture.

  ● Stabilizing effect:

  Lignin fiber keeps the asphalt film in a relatively stable state. In the summer at high temperatures, when the asphalt expands due to heat, the internal voids of the fiber will become a buffer space, preventing it from becoming free asphalt and bleeding, improving high-temperature stability. At lower winter temperatures, the fiber gives the asphalt concrete better elasticity, enhancing low-temperature stability.

  ● Bonding effect:

  Improves bonding strength. The fiber can increase the adhesion between the asphalt and the aggregate, and improve the bonding strength between the mixtures through oil film bonding.

V. Product Advantages

  ● Superior performance

  Only about 0.3% of Houde lignin fiber needs to be added to significantly improve the performance of asphalt mixtures.

  ● High cost performance

  A small amount of addition can significantly improve the performance of asphalt mixtures, and the Price is lower than other types of asphalt modification additives. No special equipment is required, and energy consumption during the production process can be significantly reduced.

  ● Does not affect mix design

  Because the improvement of asphalt concrete performance by lignin fiber mainly relies on its physical properties, it has no impact on the properties of various raw materials.

  ● Simple construction process

  It is directly added during the mixing of asphalt mixtures, and only minor adjustments to the time and temperature of the traditional mixing method are needed.

  ● Stable chemical properties

  It is not corroded by common solvents, acids, and alkalis, and is easy to store and transport.

  ● Green and environmentally friendly

  Non-toxic, odorless, pollution-free, and non-radioactive, it does not affect the environment and is harmless to humans.

VII. Instructions for Use

  1) Recommended Dosage

  The usual dosage is 0.3% of the mass of the asphalt mixture. For specific situations, please follow the actual design dosage.

  2) Construction Process

  Basically the same as the construction of traditional asphalt concrete. Specific processes can refer to the construction processes of other Houde series products.

  For intermittent mixers, manual feeding can be used. When feeding, the bag of fiber can be put in together with the hot aggregate; continuous mixers can use a fiber feeder for automatic feeding.
