Shandong Qingdao LNG Project

The Shandong Qingdao LNG project is organized and constructed by the China Petrochemical Corporation's natural gas branch and is located in the national-level new area -- Dongjiakou Port, West Coast New Area, Qingdao. The construction content includes three parts: receiving station, wharf engineering, and external pipeline engineering.

The project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in July 2010, groundbreaking in September 10, 2010, officially broke ground in June 2011, completed in September 2014, and put into operation in December. After the completion of the first phase, it can transport 3 million tons of clean energy to the Shandong Peninsula and even the North China region annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 4.8 million tons annually, equivalent to planting nearly 44 million trees and nearly 3.2 million economical cars stopping for a year; used for power generation, compared with coal reduction of sulfur dioxide by 520,000 tons. Based on the production of the first phase, the future second phase will reach the capacity of 10 million tons per year.

The Shandong Qingdao LNG project is independently designed, procured, constructed, and managed by Sinopec, making important breakthroughs in wharf design and construction, receiving station design, tank manufacturing and lifting, process evaluation, and localization of major equipment and materials. In terms of tank construction, a unique foundation structure is adopted, and the seismic performance is superior to the commonly used pile foundation, the construction progress is accelerated by more than 50%, and the project cost is reduced by about 20%. Domestically pioneering the "upper surface mold continuous pouring technology", it improves the quality of large dome concrete pouring. For the first time in LNG tanks, the pre-stressed system has been localized. In addition, in order to fully utilize the light hydrocarbon resources in the LNG feed gas, the Shandong LNG project has designed and built the first set of light hydrocarbon recovery device in China, providing a new production and operation and profit model for the development of domestic LNG receiving stations.
