1.Project Honors:

China National Excellent Engineering Award (Gold Award), China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, Outstanding Contribution Award for Sino-Algerian Cooperation

2.Project Overview:

The East-West Highway in Algeria has a total length of1216kilometers. It is the highest-level and most geologically complex highway project constructed since Algeria's independence. It traverses northern Algeria and is divided into East, Central, and West sections.3The eastern section connects to Tunisia, and the western section connects to Morocco.

3.Key Ancillary Projects:

Central section of the Algeria East-West Highway, Annaba to Taf Section of the East Section, Bejaia connecting line,MN1andMN2road reconstruction projects

4.Technical Challenges:

The East Section 84 kilometer project is the final section of highway to complete the Algeria East-West Highway. The design embankment height of this section reaches up to 44.7 meters, equivalent to the height of a 15 story building. To ensure soil compaction, the constructors compacted layer by layer, reaching a cumulative total of 149 layers.

5.Value and Significance:

The East-West Highway in Algeria is a central link in the Maghreb region's highway system in North Africa and is of strategic significance. The East-West Highway runs through areas with 90%of the country's population, which helps strengthen the new African partnership, promoting rapid development of regional infrastructure. In addition, the East-West Highway project has become an engine for economic growth in Algeria, creating10 jobs, promoting industry development, exploiting local resources, reducing traffic accidents, attracting foreign investment, creating new socio-economic development momentum for Algeria, and greatly expanding the development space.
