The Chihekou Pumping Station Irrigation Project is located on the Chikou River in northeastern Luzon Island, between Kalinga and Cagayan provinces in northeastern Philippines, approximately540kilometers from Manila, the capital city. The main construction includes a new lift pumping station, substation, supporting power transmission lines, tunnels, main irrigation canals, branch canals, as well as supporting farmland projects and paddy drainage facilities on the right bank of the Chikou River.

The project, upon completion, will provide year-round irrigation water for nearby8700hectares of farmland, benefiting22villages and approximately4350farming households, and create nearly a thousand jobs for local people. The annual income per hectare of crops will increase by7.5million pesos, saving the Philippines1000million dollars in imported rice expenses annually, helping to improve the local socio-economic level, agricultural productivity and food self-sufficiency rate. It has extensive economic and social benefits.

The Chikou River Pumping Station Irrigation Project is one of the important achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Philippines' "Build, Build, Build" plan. It is also a key infrastructure and livelihood project jointly promoted by the Chinese and Philippine governments.
