Cheddi Jagan International Airport is located south of Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana.41It provides air services to Georgetown and is an important transportation infrastructure in Guyana.1941Year, the elevation is29meters, with two asphalt runways and a terminal building. The renovation and expansion project, in which Chinese companies were deeply involved, had a total investment of approximately1.5US dollars, which comprehensively upgraded the existing facilities: the runway was extended from1067meters to3340meters, a new apron of approximately2.8square meters was built, and the terminal building was renovated and expanded by approximately1.3square meters. Supporting facilities such as airport Navigator, fire protection, security checks, baggage handling, elevators, and boarding bridges were also further improved; the airport can accommodate Boeing777and Boeing787wide-body aircraft, benefiting Guyana's transportation services industry; in addition, the airport will introduce larger cargo aircraft, and in the future, with the increase in cargo capacity, air transportation costs will be significantly reduced.

2022Year6At the end of the month, the airport expansion project was successfully completed and handed over. Guyana now has its first4Einternational airport, as well as the longest airport runway in the Caribbean, and has the basic conditions to become a regional aviation hub. After the airport expansion, several airlines have opened or increased routes to and from Georgetown. The opening of new routes will benefit the more than3Guyanese expatriates living and working in the UK. Under the booming oil and gas industry in Guyana and the increasing external exchanges and international investments, the airport expansion project has added wings to Guyana's economic take-off.
